Artist required for proposed sculpture
Ashby Town Centre Partnership is working to produce improvements to Ashby Town Centre. A sculpture has been proposed for the open space at the junction of Wood St. & Market St near to the North St junction. It will provide an entrance feature to the town.
The sculpture should reflect Ashby's importance at the heart of the National Forest. The sculpture is to be sited on a plinth measuring 1.6m diameter and the scale of the piece is to be commensurate with its location. The work must be durable, vandal proof, safe and permanent. A range of materials may be considered.
Submissions are sought from artists based in the Midlands.
Please send a proposal, comprising
- 1. Initial rough ideas for the sculpture on no more than 1 A4 sheet plus supporting sketches.
- 2. Full CV.
- 3. Details of previous work.
- A SAE should be provided if you wish your material to be returned.
Project Timetable
- Initial proposals should be submitted by Mon 30th June.
- Short listing: Monday 21st July .
- Short listed artists will be asked to produce a maquette for submission by Mon 15th September. These will be displayed in Ashby Library in order to allow local people to be involved in the selection process.
- The winning artist will be selected on Monday 6th October.
- Final sculpture to be completed ready for installation by early December 2008.
Further Details
Short listed artists will be paid a fee of up to £500 for producing the maquette. The final sculpture has a budget of up to £8, 000 which includes material and labour.
