EMARAN artist commission

The First EMARAN artist commission

The EMARAN spring conference in May 2008 explored how artists living and working in rural areas could thrive in their work.

Jo Fairfax, a Leicestershire artist and NESTA fellow was commissioned to create a series of artworks which capture the main areas of discussion and the thoughts of those attending. He spent the day talking to artists, arts officers, and practitioners and attending the workshops and presentations made by other artists from across the East Midlands.

You can find out more about Jo Fairfax by visiting his website at http://www.jofairfax.co.uk

The series of four drawings created by Jo are beautiful and witty pieces which also communicate some of the main messages of the conference, primarily the need for communication networks and advocacy for artists in rural areas.
